Activities
Schedule
Over the course of the next year, the Parceria Empresarial pelos Serviços Ecossistêmicos (PESE) - translated into English as the Brazilian Business and Ecosystem Services Partnership - will deliver four workshops, new ESR implementation case studies, and an established Brazilian corporate ecosystem services community of practice in Brazil. Workshops will correspond to the five steps of the ESR methodology.
First Workshop Completed on May 14th & 15th in Rio de Janeiro
Starting in May, a series of training workshops will teach Corporate Members how to utilize the ESR as part of PESE. Read more about our first workshop in this summary.
PESE Successfully Launched on May 10th, 2012
PESE was formally launched in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 10th, 2012 as part of the International Conference on Sustainable Development – Sustentável 2012 – hosted by the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS). The conference was supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment (MMA) and by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The event engaged business leaders, policy makers from the public and private sector, and researchers from universities and civil society in a forum with specialists from around the world.
Read coverage of the Launch Event here in an overview provided by Craig Hanson, Director of the People & Ecosystems Program at the World Resources Institute. Several news outlets have also highlighted the event, including Sustainable Brands, Bloomberg BNA, and Environmental Leader.

Subsequent Workshops
A series of capacity building workshops will follow the launch event and will correspond to the step-by-step methodology of The Corporate Ecosystem Services Review (ESR). PESE will offer four ecosystem services training workshops between May 2012 and June 2013 to increase technical capacity among companies and to promote collaboration among partnering corporate members. Companies will complete the step-by-step ESR methodology alongside the workshops and receive technical advice, personalized progress reports, and assistance from WRI, GVces, and CEBDS throughout the process.
Announcement of Results
Once all ESR projects are completed, the partnership will host an event in 2013 to announce results of PESE and to highlight the leadership demonstrated by each corporate partner.
