Johan Schaar
Co-Director, Vulnerability and Adaptation Initiative

Johan Schaar is Co-Director of WRI’s Vulnerability & Adaptation Initiative, together with Heather McGray. Before joining WRI, Johan undertook humanitarian and development work for many years in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, working in Pakistan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Geneva; at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) where he led departments for humanitarian affairs, environment, and climate change and policy support. He was also Director of the Commission on Climate Change and Development.

Johan holds a PhD in agricultural sciences from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
