Erica Schlaikjer
Erica creates, edits and manages multimedia content for EMBARQ’s growing international network of websites and blogs. She also assists with profile-raising, fundraising, media relations and other targeted communications outreach for the entire EMBARQ network.
Erica comes to the World Resources Institute with a strong interest in new media, environmental sustainability and global affairs. Prior to joining EMBARQ, she was writing and reporting for Crain’s Chicago Business, a weekly business publication in Chicago.
Erica is the founder of Benevolent Media, a volunteer startup that provides news, information and events dedicated to celebrating storytelling and design for good. In her spare time, she organized the first-ever Benevolent Media Festival in November 2011 in Washington, D.C.
During her academic and post-graduate career, she has held editorial internships at several other local, national and international publications, including National Geographic magazine; The Chicago Reporter, an investigative magazine about race and poverty; and Taiwan Business TOPICS, published by the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. In recognition of her interest in global reporting, Erica was honored with a foundational scholarship from the Overseas Press Club.
Erica also has a special interest in China and Taiwan. In 2007, she created a blog, ResponsibleChina.com, about environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility in Greater China.
Erica graduated in 2007 from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, double-majoring in journalism and international studies. She spent her childhood living in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Switzerland and Maryland. She returns to the Washington, D.C.-area from Chicago.
